Dumplings, Turnip Cakes, and Pepper Buns, Oh My!
If you’re in Taichung and you can’t decide what you want to eat, how about trying a little of everything? This is what my friend and I did at the market on the 3rd floor of the Splendor Hotel building on Taiwan Blvd. The hotel itself is on the 12th floor where the lobby and hotel restaurants are. Street level there is a bakery, a coffee shop, a Family Mart, a pharmacy, and clothing vendors. There’s a Starbucks down one level. If you go up to the 3rd floor, this where you’ll find the wonderful market and several food vendors.

There are plenty of places to sit if you choose to eat there. We wanted to take our food home to share with our parents. We couldn’t decide what to buy so we bought a little of everything: dumplings, turnip cakes, and tofu.

We were tempted by these scones! The original location is in Taipei.

Here are some of the goodies we brought home. The cabbage dish is homemade.

If you’re craving pepper buns or hujiao bing, go around the corner of the Splendor Hotel to the Pepper Cakes shop that is near my favorite breakfast place, Ri Zheng.

I believe these are made with pork, but I’m not sure. It could be beef. They are delicious and peppery and flaky. You definitely must try them!
