    Finding Balance in 2021

    December 31, 2020 / No Comments

What a crazy year this has been. I know many of us want 2020 to be over already. But 2020 wasn’t all bad. I learned a lot about myself during “safer at home” orders. I learned how to find balance despite the growing anxiety and stress of the world around us. Despite not being able to travel or see my loved ones. Here are some ways to find balance: Forgive yourself It’s okay if you don’t get that short story written. Or if you skip the Zoom meeting with your family. These are stressful times. Allow yourself to check out for a bit. Take a walk. Do yoga. Meditate. Or…

How I managed my migraines naturally My essay is up today at Exploring Wellness. I talk about how I decided my life needed a change when I was suffering from 15-20 migraine days a month. I was miserable and stressed out. I was tired of taking so many drugs. Reiki came to my rescue and from there I learned how to maintain a consistent meditation and yoga practice. My migraine days were reduced significantly. You can read the entire article here: Healing from Within: How I Managed my Migraines Naturally

A Reiki Rescue During a Pandemic

    May 4, 2020 / No Comments

Today I have a piece up on P.S. I Love You on my new rescue pup, Zoe. It’s a thank you to her for saving me from what could have been a dark and scary time. I know we’re all suffering from anxiety and fear of the unknown right now. Perhaps we’re angry with what’s happening to our communities and our lives. Yet it’s important to take a moment and appreciate what you have right now. To listen to what the universe is trying to tell you. To tap into that place of forgiveness, hope, and joy. You may find something life-changing at the end of it. Zoe did that…

During these stressful, uncertain times, it’s important to continue practicing self care. Don’t read the news all day. Try to limit it to once in the morning and once at night. Maybe thirty minutes at the most. Stay away from social media or else limit it to 30 minutes a day as well. And most importantly, take the time to be kind to yourself. Maybe that’s going for a walk where you can. If there are no parks or hiking trails open to you, just walk outside your house and around your block. Sitting in sunshine for 30 minutes can do wonders. YOGA If you have a consistent yoga practice,…

How Reiki Worked for Me But Not as I Expected

    December 5, 2019 /

My post is up today at P.S. I Love You! My first publication with them and I’m so thrilled! It’s about how my Reiki class brought me closer to my father. I was always a worrywart ever since I can remember. Over time, it brought on debilitating migraines, chronic inflammation, and hives. I needed to relieve my anxiety and stress but I never knew how. So I signed up for a Reiki class. What it did for me was beyond what I could imagine. Not only did I learn how to relax and bring down my anxiety, but it allowed me to be more open and vulnerable. If you want…

5 Ways to Reduce Stress and Anxiety

    October 16, 2019 / No Comments

I have always had anxiety and negative thinking ever since I can remember. I worry about what happened in the past, what will happen, and what I just did. I blame myself when a migraine strikes. What did I do? It’s my fault! For those of you who suffer from migraines or chronic pain, I’m sure you have similar stories. It’s hard not to worry about when the next migraine will strike or you chastise yourself for feeling worse than you did yesterday. If you already have anxiety, then being a chronic pain sufferer is debilitating! The summer of 2018 I was desperate. I had more migraine days than not.…

About SoCal Sarah

Hi, I’m Sarah and I live in Southern California where I blog, write, and plan my next trip. As a certified Arrivedo travel writer, I’m so grateful to be able to mesh my two passions: travel and writing!

Instagram

Fresh hot cross buns delivered for Easter! Thank you @beachcottagebakery! These are so delicious! (I had to take a bite immediately because they're still warm.) #hotcrossbuns #happyeaster🐰 #nomnom #bakery #sourdough
#StandUpForAAPI

Day 4: Authors who I love and admire from the Asian Diaspora. There are too many to name and I could take dozens of photos more but here is what I have for today.

#stopaapihate #bookcommunity #bookstagrammer #diversebooks #stopasianhate #writingcommunity #authorsofinstagram #asianauthors #supportaapi
#STANDUPFORAAPI Call to Action!

Here are a few ways you can continue to support the AAPI community every day.

From buying books from AAPI authors to supporting Asian-owned businesses (like one of my favorites @kirariwest!), there are so many ways to show support and solidarity.

Consider donating to organizations supporting AAPI, like Asians with Attitudes. It started as a neighborhood patrol in Oakland but has since expanded. They’re protecting our elders and ensuring their safety. Now they are transitioning to a non-profit as they want to empower the community through events, youth camps, and help Asian businesses who have suffered.

Sign up for bystander intervention training! It’s virtual, free, and they’ve added more sessions. Thank you @hollaback and @advancingjustice!

And there are numerous organizations supporting not just AAPI but the entire Asian diaspora!

#STANDUPFORAAPI #stopasianhate #diversevoices #authorsofinstagram #chineseamerican #mixedrace #writingcommunity
Please read and join us: AAPI authors and bookstagrammers have come together in solidarity to raise awareness and to stop ongoing violence and hate incidents targeting the #AAPI community.

We are asking you to join in our efforts this week (March 22-26) by spreading the word, taking action, and becoming an ally to help #STANDUPFORAAPI.

Scroll to see the schedule we have planned for tihis week (starting March 22) and how you can make a difference.

Today Day 1 - Repost this in your feed and share to your stories. Join in on the conversation on these issues and support the authors and bookstagrammers in the AAPI community. Post the hashtag #STANDUPFORAAPI and visit these authors and bookstagrammers to enter to win the giveaways later this week. Thank you!
A lovely end to a tough week. Zoe and I had our monthly visit to the @scbgarden. A local news station happened to be there shooting a spring special on social media pups. 😂 #spring #tulips🌷 #gardensofinstagram #doglover #dogday #southcoastbotanicgarden #palosverdes
Dog Day at the @scbgarden! Zoe had fun on all the trails while I enjoyed the beautiful blooms and a very curious squirrel. #southcoastbotanicgarden #palosverdes #southbay #tulips🌷 #dogsofinstagram
Today is anniversary of Zoe's "gotcha" day. Can't believe it's one year already! I'm so grateful for her coming into my life. 🐶 #dogsofinstagram #rescuedog #doglover #adoptdontshop🐾 #fosterfail #ilovemydog❤️
#tbt exactly 4 years ago today I joined the largest single-day protest in history. For the next 4 years, we donated, postcarded, text banked, and phone banked. We didn't stop believing we could do better. And finally we have. #vicepresidentkamalaharris #biden46thpresident #madamevicepresident #womensmarch #presidentjoebiden
